Coffee does not increase hypertension risks

Coffee often becomes an enemy for people with high blood pressure or hypertension such as heart disease and stroke. However, a study in the United States revealed that there are no evidence that coffee may increase the risk of the disease.

‘American Journal of Clinical Nutrition’ reported the result of the research after combining previous studies, which includes a study of 170 thousand people. “As a result, habits of drinking 3 cups of coffee a day has nothing to do with an increased risk of hypertension,” said Liwey Chen, a researcher of Public Health at the Louisiana University in New Orleans, according to Reuters.

But this does not mean that drinking lots of coffee have no risks at all. Risk of hypertension for those who drinks 3 cups of coffee a day are slightly different from those who drinks less than 3 cups.

“In my opinion, coffee does not pose a risk of high blood pressure,” said Lawrence Krakoff, a researcher at ‘Mount Sinai Medical Center’, New York.

According Krakoff, the link between coffee and high blood pressure is difficult to explain. Therefore, the effect is different for each person.

Genetic background determines how people react to coffee. Drinking coffee in large quantities may be safe for someone. But it may also dangerous for others.
